Daehan shipbuilding get the order for two 115,000 DWT-grade product carriers

-Mid-sized tanker order amid deteriorating oil tanker market in the fourth quarter.

Daehan Shipbuilding has won orders for two 115,000 DWT-grade product carriers from a famous Greek shipping company. The ships will begin production in October next year and will be delivered sequentially from May 2011.

The contracted ships will be constructed according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s environmental regulations, Tier III, and will meet Phase 3 of the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index).

Unlikely the first half of the year, Daehan Shipbuilding is the only Korean shipyard to win orders for medium-sized tankers amid deteriorating oil tanker market in the fourth quarter.

Accordingly, 19 ships (11 Aframax-grade crude oil taker, six LR2, and two 1,000 TEU container ship) were ordered in this year, exceeding the ordering goal of 14 and securing stable supplies by 2023.

An official from daeahn Shipbuilding said, "Our main types of tankers, Aframax tanker and Sueznax tanker, are highly regarded by Greek shipowners and charterers as high-quality ships," adding, "The company's reputation as the best medium-sized tankers led to the contract."
