DHshipbuilding, a medium-sized shipyard located in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. Despite facing various challenges, the company aims to emerge as the world's premier medium-sized shipyard.

 

In the past year, DHshipbuilding achieved a total of 14 ship orders, including 13 Suezmax (150,000 tons) for crude oil carriers and one tanker for petroleum products. The total value of these contracts reached an impressive $1.15 billion.

 

Based on this, as of the end of last year, the total number of vessels to be constructed in the future is 27, amounting to approximately 2.13 billion dollars.

 

Kim Kwang-ho, Chairman of KHI, the largest shareholder of DHshipbuilding, expressed confidence on January 1st, stating, "With these outstanding order achievements, we will elevate DHshipbuilding to become the world's top medium-sized shipyard."

 

DHshipbuilding, marking its 20th anniversary this year, has overcome significant challenges since its establishment in 2004 in Hwawon-myeon, Haenam-gun. Faced with the global financial crisis in 2008 and subsequent financial difficulties within the parent company, Daejoo Group, DHshipbuilding entered into a workout in 2009.

 

In 2011, it entered into a management consignment with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and underwent corporate restructuring from 2014 to 2015.

 

 

In 2017, we achieved the top market share in the global market for Aframax(80,000 to 120,000 tons) crude oil carriers, and in 2018, we also ventured into the market for Suezmax crude oil carriers.

 

In 2020, the company also ventured into the shuttle tanker market, which involves specialized vessels for transporting crude oil from offshore production to onshore petroleum bases, offering higher value than typical large oil tankers.

 

Furthermore, in 2021, DHshipbuilding participated in the LNG dual-fuel ship market, and in 2022, it entered the medium-sized container ship market.

In September 2022, with KHI Group's investment (securing 95% ownership), DHshipbuilding laid a solid foundation for its second leap forward.

 

With a sharp increase in orders for the flagship Suezmax-class crude oil carriers last year, and a projected steady demand for the next three years, the company anticipates optimistic prospects. Factors such as increased demand due to environmental regulations, replacement of aging vessels, and the versatility of the Suezmax-class contribute to the positive outlook.

 

DHshipbuilding plans to expand the share of high-value ship types through shuttle tanker orders this year, considering vessels for ammonia transportation and entry into the gas tanker market.

 

The CEO of DHshipbuilding emphasized, "We will do our best to position ourselves as the world's recognized top medium-sized shipyard, acknowledged by shipowners."
