DHshipbuilding has been selected as the first domestic mid-sized shipyard to receive financial support.
DHshipbuilding has been selected as the first domestic mid-sized shipyard to receive financial support from Shinhan Bank, one of the major commercial banks.
On June 17, a 'K-Shipbuilding Export Financial Support Agreement Ceremony' was held in Seoul, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and major financial institutions, aimed at securing the competitiveness of the domestic shipbuilding industry and expanding exports.
At the ceremony, the five major commercial banks (KB Kookmin, Hana, Shinhan, Woori, NH Nonghyup Bank), three regional banks (Gyeongnam, Gwangju, Busan Bank), as well as the Industrial Bank of Korea and the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, decided to prioritize providing refund guarantees (RG) to DHshipbuilding and Kshipbuilding (mid-sized shipyards).
A refund guarantee (RG) is a guarantee in which a financial institution agrees to pay the advance payment to the ship owner on behalf of the shipyard if the shipyard fails to deliver the ship to the owner within the agreed timeframe.
This agreement is significant as it marks the first time in about 11 years that the five major commercial banks have resumed financial support for mid-sized shipyards.
Under this agreement,DHshipbuilding and Kshipbuilding will receive refund guarantees from nine banks for nine ships (approximately $260 million) that have already been ordered, with a receiving support for six ships (approximately $180 million).
