The 15th Shipbuilding and Marine Day event was held, and Jeong Sang-Chae, Daehan Shipbuilding executive managing director won the Industry rewards

 

 

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy (MOCIE) and the Shipbuilding Marine Plant Association held the 15th Shipbuilding and Marine Plant Day at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on August 14.

 

Lee Jong-Chan, executive managing director of Hyundai Mipo Shipbuilding, Chung Sang-Chae, executive managing director of Daehan Shipbuilding, received industry rewards. And other 29 people sent the Presidential Commendation (3), the Prime Minister's Commendation (19), and the Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (3).

 

Lee Jong-Chan, executive managing director of Hyundai Mipo Shipbuilding, who won the Dongtap Industrial Medal, has worked in the industry for 25 years and has been highly praised for his achievements in 21 years in wage negotiations from 1997 to 2017 and strengthen industrial competitiveness by improving the production process.

 

Chung Sang-Chae, executive managing director of Daehan Shipbuilding, who won the Industrial reward, has contributed to reducing disaster rates and developing sound labor-management relations by constructing safety workshop construction and enhancing technology.

 

Kim Tae-Hyung, director of Donghwa NTECH, also won the presidential commendation for his contribution to the development of LNG-related technology and the localization of equipment.

 

Kim Seung-Hyuk, director of Samsung Heavy Industries, won the presidential award for contribution to the domestication of materials and equipment led by the Korean LNG Cargo Department (KC-1) and led to the independent development of floating LNG storage and regeneration equipment (FSRU).

 

Park Hyung-Geun, executive managing director of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, won the presidential commendation for his contribution to expanding orders and securing jobs in the LNG market by conducting differential business activities in the LNG industry.

 

Kim Do-Yoon, managing director of Unam Marine, won the reward for his contribution to strengthening the technological competitiveness of small Korean ships. Also, he contributes to improving the defense capabilities of the navy and extends a global southeast market.

 

Gong Joo-Sik, Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering’s Senior executive managing director who won the prime minister's commendation, has contributed to the prevention of foreign exchange leakage by entering the construction of Korea's first coastal ferry. And he contributes to satisfactory settlement of wage and organization agreement.

 

In his congratulatory speech, Lee In-Ho, vice-minister of industry, congratulated Korea’s recovery to the top of the world's orders which was taken away by China from January to August this year with 7.56 million CGT, or 42.81 million CGT. And request to practice reconstruction strongly of the shipbuilding industry.

 

Lee also said, "Our high technological capabilities are helping us to overcome the recession. He stressed, "We need to continue to increase technology and widen the gap," adding, "We need to develop design capabilities and construction methods so that young people can work in the shipbuilding and marine industry.“

 

Lee In-Ho added, "We should learn from the difficulties of regeneration and excessive competition in the past to create a system of cooperation and symbiosis, and strengthen the structure of large and small shipyards and equipment manufacturers.“

 

On the other hand, Shipbuilding and Marine Day was established to commemorate September 15, 1997, when orders exceeded 10 million tons, and a commemorative ceremony held in 2004, and the name was changed to Shipbuilding and Marine Day in 2011.

 

The event was not held in 2016 due to the recession, but in 2017, it was held in December due to delays in a market recovery, and this year they will visit the due date and hold a commemorative ceremony in September.
