Shipbuilders in the southwest of Jeolla-Nam-Fo, including Yeongam, have been struggling for a long time, but they are expected to revive this year due to increased orders for ships and government support policies.

According to the Bank of Korea's Mokpo headquarters on November 19, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (Yeongam) and Daehan Shipbuilding (Haenam, Jeolla-Nam-Do) received orders (4.06 million CGT) at the end of November last year.

In particular, the demand for high-value-added LNG ships has soared due to the strengthening of global environmental regulations, and 58.1 percent of new LNG and LPG ships show signs of economic recovery. The increase in new shipments is expected to bring a change in the number of materials to be delivered that have fallen for the second consecutive year in 2017.

Before this, Daehan Shipbuilding Co received an order for an oil carrier on May 15. A 157,000 DWT crude oil carrier was ordered from Maran tankers, the largest Greek shipping company, Angelixis Group. The ship is one of the two Suezmax Tanker 2+2 contracts signed by Daehan Shipbuilding Co last October, 274 meters long, 48 meters wide, and 23.7 meters high. Angelicus Group, which leads the global shipbuilding market, signed a construction contract with Daehan Shipbuilding Co last year and signed a series of contracts on options, so it is expected that Daehan Shipbuilding Co will receive another additional order.

The ship will be delivered at the end of October 2008 with the latest eco-friendly technology that meets the IMO(International Maritime Organization)'s environmental regulations. Daehan Shipbuilding Co received orders for 15 ships last year and secured construction capacity by 2020. It continues to win orders through its management and sales system and its own sales strategy.
