[2019.10.18] Daehan Shipbuilding Co-Host a Naming ceremony of Latest 115,000 DWT Eco-Friendly Tanker

Daehan Shipbuilding Co, which has secured stable orders and contributed to the revitalization of the regional economy, held a naming ceremony for two ships using the latest eco-friendly technology on August 18.

At the naming ceremony, Jeolla-Nam-do Governor Kim Young-rok attended the ceremony with VIPs such as shipowners, charter companies, ship rank, and godmother. Mrs. Collen Cervantes whom Chevron Lubricant’s President and Mrs. Maria Ximenes whom Chevron General Manager are decided as Godmother are honorary roles of announcing the ship's name.

Those 115,000 DWT Aframax-class ships which were ordered by Greek shipping company Tsakos in May 2018 are 249.9 meters long, 15.2 meters high, and 44 meters wide.

Those two vessels are special in that they have been involved in the early stages of the contract to constructions of the vessels for direct charter purposes. Usually, shipowners ask shipbuilders to build ships and shipowners sign contracts with Charterer to Charter. These are rare cases in which a charterer is involved from the beginning of the contract. It means that Charterer believes in the history of shipowners and shipbuilders. In fact that the charterer is Chevron, which has been known as the global oil major, means that Daehan Shipbuilding Co is trusted by global charterers.

In addition, the two vessels are equipped with environmental protection technology International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted the latest as it meets Tier III is the standard of the countermeasures against sulfuric acid emissions SOxScrubber.

Authorities of Daehan Shipbuilding Co said, "By applying the latest eco-friendly technology to the ship, we hope that the shipowner will recognize us as excellent shipbuilders not only in quality but also in technology." He also said, "We will do our best to revitalize the regional economy through various business strategies, including how charterers participate."
